Common Issues

Troubleshooting

Common issues and how to resolve them

Device shows solid red LED

If your device LED is solid red, it means there's no internet connectivity. Try these steps:

  1. Check that the ethernet cable is firmly connected at both ends
  2. Verify your router has internet access by testing with another device
  3. Try a different ethernet port on your router
  4. Restart your router and wait 2 minutes, then power cycle the CaptiFi device
  5. Ensure no firewall is blocking outbound connections on ports 443 and 51820

Device stuck on purple (not enrolling)

If the device stays purple and won't enroll:

  1. Make sure you're entering the correct PIN from the device label
  2. Verify the device has internet access (try checking router logs)
  3. Clear your browser cache and try the enrollment again
  4. Wait 5 minutes and try again - enrollment servers may be temporarily busy

Device shows solid blue (VPN issue)

A solid blue LED indicates internet is working but the VPN tunnel isn't established:

  1. Wait 5 minutes - the VPN usually reconnects automatically
  2. Check that UDP port 51820 isn't blocked by your network firewall
  3. Some corporate networks block VPN traffic - check with your IT team
  4. Power cycle the device if the issue persists after 10 minutes

Device won't turn on

If there's no LED activity at all:

  1. Ensure the PoE injector is connected to a working power outlet
  2. Check that both ethernet cables are connected (power outlet to PoE IN, PoE OUT to device)
  3. Try a different power outlet
  4. Contact support if the device still doesn't power on
