HPE Aruba Instant On
Setup Guide

Configure your Aruba Instant On access points to work with CaptiFi's captive portal and guest WiFi management system.

๐Ÿ“‹ Before you start, make sure you have:
โ€ข An HPE Aruba Instant On account with your access points onboarded
โ€ข A CaptiFi account with an Aruba location created โ€” create one here
โ€ข Your Site ID from CaptiFi (shown in the Aruba config section of your location)

1 Creating a new network

Log into the Aruba Instant On Portal (or the mobile app) and navigate to Networks โ†’ Create Network.

Configure the network name:

Name Your desired WiFi name (e.g. _My Restaurant FREE WiFi)
๐Ÿ’ก Tip: Starting the name with an underscore _ pushes it to the top of the WiFi list, making it easier for customers to find.
Click Next.

On the Network Properties screen, set the following:

Network Usage Guest
Network Security None
Guest Portal Enabled
Click Next.

On the IP Assignment screen, keep the defaults:

IP Assignment Specific to This Network (default)
Base IP Leave default
Subnet Mask Leave default
Click Create network.

2 Configure the network

Once the network is created, go to Guest Portal on the left sidebar and configure the external captive portal:

Type External
Portal URL https://app.captifi.io/guest/aruba?site_id=YOUR_SITE_ID/
Authentication Options Guest Authentication (default)
RADIUS Profile Create RADIUS Profile
โš ๏ธ Replace YOUR_SITE_ID with your Site ID from CaptiFi. Ensure you add a / at the end of the URL.

Create the RADIUS profile

Click "Create RADIUS Profile" and enter the following:

Name CaptiFi RADIUS
โš ๏ธ "Require RADIUS Message-Authenticator" must NOT be selected.
RADIUS Accounting Enabled
Server IP Address or Domain Name radius.captifi.io
Shared Secret Available from your CaptiFi account manager
Authentication Port 1812
Accounting Port 1813
Server Timeout (seconds) 5
Retry Count 3
Click Next.

On the NAS Identifier screen:

NAS Identifier Assignment Use Device IP Address (default)
โœ… Ensure "Use Device IP" is selected.
Click Create RADIUS Profile.

3 Add the allowed domains

Still in the Guest Portal settings, scroll to Allowed Domains and click Add. Add each of the following domains one by one:

๐Ÿ’ก Paste each domain into the input field and click "Add Domain", then repeat for the next one.

4 Apply changes

All remaining configurations can retain their default values.

Click Update to save your configuration.
โœ… Your CaptiFi captive portal is now configured on your Aruba Instant On network!

5 Test the solution

Connect to the WiFi network you just created. You should see the CaptiFi login page appear. Complete the login process and you should receive internet access.

You can verify guest connections are being recorded in your CaptiFi dashboard under Site Guest Logs.

๐Ÿงช Don't have an Aruba device to test with?
You can simulate the flow by visiting:
https://app.captifi.io/guest/aruba?site_id=YOUR_SITE_ID

This will redirect you to the splash page. Fill in the form to verify guest data is captured correctly in your CaptiFi dashboard. Replace YOUR_SITE_ID with your actual Site ID.
